I love Hanks. I love everything about Hanks. Their Philly cheesesteaks are amazing, and their turkey croquettes are out of this world. The interior is a little sparse, and can be loud, but every noise and trouble just floats away when I bite into their top-notch comfort homestyle food. Tons of flowers outside, I wish they had outdoor seating. Negative reviews are probably from out of towners tired from a long day at Longwood Gardens. I've been here over a dozen times, and am always satisfied! Also, they're cash only, so be aware of that.

I'd say that the only down side to Hank's is that even though it has a lot of seating, it is almost always packed, which is of course a testament to its popularity. This also means that parking is always tight as well. This is the old fashioned kind of diner where the waitresses call you "honey" and make you feel welcomed. In my review of Ruby's Diner I note that I always sail right past that establishment on my way to Hank's (as I suspect other do, hence the crowd). Oh, and the food is good too!

I've heard Hank's was a little hyped up so when I went for the first time I honestly didn't expect much. But let me tell you, this place is awesome. Their breakfast options are great, the food is so consistent and their prices are more than fair for the servings they give. I always have great service. They can get really busy, but they're efficient. This place is run like clock work. It's really impressive. I have nothing bad to say about Hank's- by far my favorite breakfast place!

The exterior of this place is beautifully decorated with local flowers. The interior reminds you of an old country style kitchen that needs updating. The line for this place is long on Sunday's. The breakfast here is great. Reasonably priced. We had the bacon, egg and cheese sandwhich, two eggs scrambled with bacon and homefries and cream chipped beef with two over-easy eggs. I tried everything.... yummy. Two chocolate milks, orange juice and coffee. This made my travels from S. Philly to Chadsford very pleasant. I shall return with fellow collegues and family to brunch my breakfast food cravings.

This is what I did not have but will be back to get ... a hot fudge sundae with wet walnuts and whipped cream. We sat at the counter and watched our waitress make a this sundae the "old fashion" way. It looked so good; I was drooling. Back to our meal. Extensive menu that goes on for pages. That should tell you that you should stick to the specials or the basics. We sat at the counter and had a crab cake sandwich and a portobello mushroom sandwich. Food was served hot and tasted ok. Service was fast and very friendly. Cash only. Have dessert first!

Stopped for breakfast with the family. Love the atmosphere. Services are good. Food was good and filling. All most to much for the kids. They couldn't finish the banana pancakes. I had the Italian sausage omelet, loved it. Would definitely stop again. Bathroom very clean.

My wife and I went to breakfast here, and everything was very good. It's also kind of cool to watch the locals.

You can keep this little landmark ... Waited in line outside for 30min then once inside my kids get pancakes and wife had a waffle my coffee was $2 a coffee and they charge for refills .. Party of 4 was $43 plus tip I walked out paying $50 saying to my wife very cute place but I-hop would of been 10x better .. Two stars for being a cool looking place and nice staff .. Cash only . Someone is making lots of money .. I hate that .. You don't want to pay taxes and charge me those prices then so sorry never again.

Good breakfast. Pancakes were amazing. Scrapple was super salty. There is no hostess. A random server fills in at any given moment. Seating is a bit cramped. Service was great. Liked the old fashioned decor. They have a picture of their first building. Love places with history. Still cash only. Not worth it if there is a line.

A stone's throw from Brandywine Museum, simple and delicious diner to pop in pre/post sights in the area, walls adorned with local artwork a la Wyeth. Ham sandwich made with Lancaster's own Kunzler's. Ask for the 'special sauce' on the side (it's a homemade vinegarette that is a must!). If their fancy strawberry pie is available, do it. You won't regret the extra inch on your waist! NB call ahead takeout orders perfect for a picnic at the museum.

My friends and I, made a quick pix stop in this Dinner. Hank's serves diner-style food, but a bit little less greasy, they have a good selection on their menu, I order the 10 oz. charbroiled chopped sirloin steak, made with choice lean hamburger and charbroiled to your liking, server with French fries or home fries, the meat patty charbroiled It's a simple burger that just tastes incredible! And their fries have a good taste. The servers, they were very efficient, they were on top of the table with water and coffee. I will stop again if I near the area, to explorer more the menu.

Hanks is a diner. It's ok. Years ago sometimes Andrew Wyeth would stop in to eat. He's dead so why bother?

It's a diner! A diner should not be compared to a 4 star restaurant. For a diner it gets 4 stars. Breakfast and lunch are fantastic here! Innovative meals with a Greek flair plus the traditional American choices. The portions are HUGE. The service is always friendly but not that prompt as they are very busy. If you are patient, you can enjoy a nice meal here. Ps I love their waffles!!

Went here for breakfast last Saturday, before heading to the nearby Brandywine River Museum of Art (which is spectacular). Hank's serves diner-style food, but a little less greasy. I got their special sausage patty on a biscuit with poached eggs and chipped beef gravy on top and a side of home fries. It was quite good and a generous portion. The owner was there and came around to greet us. We were lucky, as there was no line when we arrived; as we were leaving the museum a bit later, we saw that the line was out the door. I'm not entirely convinced this place is worth waiting in line for, but it is good food and good value. Also, be forewarned, it is CASH ONLY (they do have an ATM in the restaurant).

An unexpected find on our way to Longwood Gardens, we were first attracted by the flower decorations outside, so we stopped to take a closer look. We noticed a long line to get in and we decided it must be worth the wait. Fifteen minutes later, we were seated at a small table surrounded by families having Sunday breakfast. We ordered traditional breakfast fare, bacon and eggs and an omelet, which were served with large portions of hash browns. The coffee was great and refills were free. The staff was very attentive and service was quick. The only negative is the restaurant is cash only.

No matter what you order you will be super happy. The crabcakes, the club sandwich, and the burger are incredible. Pro-tip* don't expect stellar service, it is what it is, the food is the pull here.

  • D T.

The food was decent, the service was quick, and the seating options were meh. I also felt a bit rushed by the busboys constantly hovering to take my plate before I finished my food.

First time after some hype from my parents. Zagats all over the entrance made me think I was going to experience diner bliss. On the contrary I ordered tuna melt and it was actually mayo on muffin. Ive never had such horrible tuna melt and Ive been to dives all over the U.S. Subway has better tuna and thats saying something. Stick to breakfast I guess.

Hank's Place is a Chadd's Ford staple and there's a reason why. Plain and simple this place just serves good comfort food. It's most popular for breakfast and it used to be frequented by Andrew Wyeth which tells you something about it. The place is small and always crowded because it's really the only place of its kind in the area. The line moves quick and it's worth it, even if you just grab a seat at the counter with an old friend. Anything you order will be great but today I finally tried a breakfast sandwich because I had been craving one and it's so hard to find a good, fresh breakfast sandwich in the area. Without a doubt the bacon was the best part about it. It was thicker than anything you get at the grocery, crispy, salty, and just damn delicious. Great bacon to egg ratio going on here. The coffee is good, and I've also been incredibly satisfied by the french toast on other occasions. Prices are reasonable and the staff is attentive. If you've never been you need to give it a try.

3.5 stars. We came here on a holiday weekday and the line was extremely long for a 1:00 lunch service. This restaurant has every type of accolade possible, which is very cool, meaning that the food must be incredible. The service was incredible, very friendly, quick, and efficient. Prices aren't the cheapest. Decor is old and some of the furniture needs to be changed. The chairs weren't the most comfortable. The onion soup here was good, with an overload of onions and very nice cheese. The chicken pot pie was pretty good, which a nice portion. It came in a different fashion, without a crust. The vegetables were cooked well and the boiled chicken was good. The chicken parmigiana was average. They gave me two little pieces of tender chicken, with pasta. The tomato sauce was a bit watery and actually had a slight metallic taste. But the chicken was very good. Overall, this place wasn't fully worth the wait and was just a small notch above a typical diner.

  • Angela K.

Best breakfast spot in town! Get there early to avoid the long line, but if you don't make it in time, it's worth the wait. Of course, if you can grab a seat at the counter, you'll probably bypass the line. The grilled muffins and sticky buns are amazing and the frittatas are the best!

Good road food, but long lines to get seated during popular meal times. Get some pie.

  • Sasha S.

Breakfast was decent. However, this place only excepts cash which is a deal breaker for me! To add insult, the Mac machine in the restaurant was out of service. I asked the manager if she plans on updating her system and she said no. I just moved to this area and will not be coming back! Denny's and IHOP take credit, so what makes this place special!

We always drive by on the way to Longwood Gardens, and its always real busy (for breakfast anyway). We stopped in today for breakfast and I can only guess its so busy b/c of its excellent high-traffic location. Any place that boasts "homemade" has no business putting canned vegetables (tomatoes, onions, peppers) in a western omelette. And if they were not canned vegetables, they certainly had the color, consistency, and and taste of them. Not to mention that it was way overcooked and cold at the same time (how does that happen?) . My daughters pancakes were good, though. The service was pretty good, and the waitress removed my $10 "homemade" omelette from the check.

We love to eat at Hank's, they have the best roast turkey with real gravy, fresh mashed potatoes, fresh sweet potatoes, fresh butternut squash, when in season, and really good service!!! I recommend highly!!! Robert Earl

It may not be a fair comparison, but sitting here now eating rubbery pancakes brings to mind how lucky we are in nearby Philadelphia to have REAL breakfast places like Sabina's, Green Eggs, Morning Glory, Ants Pants, and Honey Sit n' Eat, too name a few. Good thing Longwood Gardens is around the corner, but next time I'll eat first in the city, as it's only about a 35 minutes away.

We came with a large party on Sunday morning. We were all from out of town, and were weighing whether to take a party of 13 there or just give up and go to iHop. I can confirm that they are still cash-only, as some diners still are, but I was baffled by the Yelper complaining about having to pay for refills. Coffee is $1.89, and mine was refilled a lot by an attentive wait staff. Perhaps they changed this, because there is a line on the menu that says "free refills" next to the coffee line on the menu. The service was outstanding for a breakfast joint -- they are well-staffed, so your cup never gets cold and there is always someone there to help. The food was OK. The omelettes were OK -- I prefer mine browned in butter and overflowing rather than neatly folded and cooked on a griddle sprayed with Pam (no crunch on the outside). Overall, a decent place to meet friends for breakfast with OK food, basic decor and an attentive and very friendly wait staff. In the end, it was the right choice to go there over iHop.

I've eaten at Hanks twice now with the same friend who lives in the area. Twice I really didn't finish my breakfast because it just wasn't that good. For all of the inconveniences (crowded, long lines, cash only) the meals were just average. The scrambled eggs were hard and the bacon didn't taste right. I felt like we inconveniencing the woman who waited on us and it didn't make me want to come back again... and I won't be back for a third time. My friend will have to come to West Chester if we're going to do breakfast food. This wasn't worth the gas or time. It's a shame because I really wanted to like this place. Friends' parents seem to rave about this place but I think something might have changed since the last time they went.

Hank's Place is a small, rustic family diner that always seems to be bustling with people. The prices were decent, and the service was fast. Their Philly cheesesteak was wonderful. The Mac n' Cheese on the other hand was pretty bland. I'm guessing the food is a hit or miss, but overall it was well worth the visit. As a side note, I know its a family restaurant, but this place closes early! 7:00 pm on a Saturday night!

  • Valerie S.

Very good food. Pretty good service. Great atmosphere. Love all the flowers they have outside the restaurant, and this past time when I went, they had a lot of beautiful basil plants growing amongst their flowers. I think Hank's is famous for their corned beef hash, which IS really good, and their other food is great too. Lots of good choices! They also have really good cheesesteaks! Much better than those you can get at Geno's and Pat's in Philly!

Been here a few times, classic little diner that is very popular with the local crowd. Came on a Saturday in freezing weather and there was still a 20-30 minute wait to be seated (prob 15 minutes outside). The slightly annoying wait notwithstanding, the food was great and is very reasonably priced. Your coffee is constantly bring filled by the friendly waitstaff too. I had the Mexican Frittata and thought it was awesome. If you can deal with the wait, I'd recommend coming here for a hearty breakfast

We went to Hanks place with a group of five for brunch. All of us got something different, and all of us were pretty pleased with what we got. One of my friends got a sort of eggs Benedict that included smoked salmon and chipped beef. He was dubious about salmon and chipped Beef going together, but was very pleased with the results. Another friend had a mushroom omelette that she said was delicious. My brother got French toast with a peach sauce on top and was happy with the density of the French toast. I got two fried eggs with two pancakes and bacon. Eggs were a little rubbery, but the pancakes themselves were delicious. There was a bit of a lineup the door, so expect to wait on Sunday mornings. Generally though, we were quite pleased and if we lived in the area would definitely come back again.

We've only been here for dinner and it's always excellent. The turkey dinner is a favorite treat that can be enjoyed any time of year. The moussaka and spanakopita are delicious too. We are alway too full for dessert but I'm sure they are wonderful. It's very open and a little loud at times. The staff is very friendly and attentive. There is an ATM in the restaurant ($2 service charge plus whatever your bank charges) as they do not accept credit cards. They are very busy but we were seated right away at 6:30 on a Saturday. They close at 7:00. I definitely recommend Hanks if you want good homemade cooking at reasonable prices.

  • Mike S.

Best breakfast most anywhere! Pancakes and sausage are amazing. Bacon also is wonderful there. Bring cash, or use their ATM - no Credit Cards not even American Express ;) Lines can be long, but they have modular tables, so small and large groups can be accommodated on the fly.

This place is pretty decent for breakfast and I can't speak to the lunch/dinner menu. I, however, am the worst person to take out to breakfast because my ideal meal for this time of the day consists of coffee (with free refills) and maybe a bagel. On the morning I went with a fellow of mine, this place was packed! The owners are Greek and so was my date. I was advised to try the "Voula's corned beef and hash" sans the eggs (cuz they are grooosss!--generally speaking, nothing personal with this venue) This item definitely didn't disappoint: the hash was perfectly crispy and full of the right spices. There was an addition of leeks that gave it a depth of flavor that I'd never had in this dish before. Maybe that's a Greek thing? Friendly servers, good food, and great company makes any meal enjoyable so all in all, if I lived closer I'd make it a point to come back.

Food was ok, service ok, nothing special, cute place and love the fact that my favorite painter frequented and his art is all over the walls. The problem we had was it's cash only, no signs and I lost my debit card a couple days before and was waiting for a new one in mail. Luckily my teenage daughter had $24 dollars on her to pay the tab or I guess we would have been doing dishes or something. Put a sign on the door people.

Based on local reputation ate there two times. First time for breakfast, mediocre, OK, nothing special, no better than almost any diner type establishment, nothing to write home about. Had scrambled eggs, toast, coffee, so what can do, no special bread,OK coffee, eggs were overcooked, well I was hungry. Second time, yesterday, had a gyro because some review said it had authentic Greek food. Supposed to be grilled chicken gyro, the chicken definately spent the night in the refrigerator, barely warmed up, dried out, tasteless, very cold yogart dressing, supermarket pita, un--eatable. The gyro was $8, small, not enough for a meal, no sides - added french fries another $3. Stay away, not worth the crowds, cost and mediocre to bad food.

Great curb appeal but the inside is very loud and crowded. We waited about 20 minutes for a table for brunch on a Saturday morning. The wait staff was pretty overwhelmed; it took a long time to get refills and to ask for missing condiments. My burger was absolutely tasteless, as were the fries which were super greasy. My girlfriend had the mushroom sandwich and said it was fantastic - lots of taste, great sauce and veggies, and very filling. It's a bit of a nuisance that this place is cash-only.

I stopped in with coworkers when I was in town for business. First KEY piece of info. Cash only, NO credit cards. Come prepared or you'll pay the atm fees. I ordered the spinach salad with portabella mushrooms. Simple, but one of the best salads I've had in recent memories. Grilled mushrooms, spinach, with a hint of crumbled bacon. Absolutely delicious. I got a look at some of the sandwiches and soup. Didn't look too impressive. If you go with the salad you won't be disappointed.

I have been coming to Hank's for almost 30 years. Gone is the quaint old diner and its long-time staff. Now, it's simply another "diner" type restaurant. The service ranges from rude to mediocre. The atmosphere that used to draw and keep us now is stale and common. Breakfast used to be available all day long, but no longer is- similar to a McDonald's experience. Hate to write this after so many years, but Hank's is no longer the tourist mecca it used to be. Look elsewhere for a local diner experience with local color.

I ordered the copped beef with biscuits this morning. The biscuits were good, the graveyard was ok, but the quantity of meat cups was skimpy. The dish was really graveyard on biscuits

Why is there so much hype about this place? My Mom, my husband and I decided to check this place out after hearing great things. Boy, were we misled. First of all, I have never ever been asked to wait outside the restaurant while waiting for a table. We were just standing by the door waiting for a table when we were rudely told to wait outside. So we left to wait outside like they asked while diners at the tables near-by were like, "Wow, we would just leave if we were you." Then, while waiting out there, other people went in and they were sat! So we went back inside and sat at the counter, only to be yelled at by the server who said she cleaned a table in the back specifically for us. So we moved to the table feeling like we were badly behaving guests who were causing hardship for the server. To fix this problem, they should take out the two tables crowding the door and put in a host stand. I've never been so upset with an establishment before even sitting down. We only stayed that morning because we were starving, and we were disappointed. The server took our drink order by telling us that we wanted coffee. The creamers she gave us for our coffee were warm because she was carrying them around in her apron.. ew. My western omelet left much to be desired. The vegetables were not fresh. As someone who cooks frequently with fresh produce, it was obvious they were using canned, frozen, or old vegetables. Neither my mom or my husband were happy with their frittata or corned beef. The server never came back to see if everything was okay and it took forever for the check. Service was just terrible all around and I'm a former server, so I don't write this lightly. It was also extremely overpriced. The server wrote out the bill but we could not identify two of the objects on the bill. When it came time to pay, we could not find her to ask her. Therefore, our breakfast, which was 3 coffees, a western omelet, a frittata, and corned beef hash came to $40 not including tip. I've had much better food for much less. We will not be going back there. In fact, I'm creating my Yelp account just to write this review.

Dipped in here after a long trail run in the Brandywine Valley. The line was long to get in, but it moved quick. Servers were quick with the coffee service, and the food came out promptly despite the crowd. The omelette was delicious--lots of sausage and vegetables. I didn't partake in any of the sweet offerings--waffles or pancakes and such--but they looked fantastic on the plates of other customers. If you're in the BW Valley and in need of a solid breakfast, this is your spot. You won't need another meal until dinner.

Food: 2 Decor: 1 Ambiance: 1 Service: 1 Value: 2 Biggest Gripes: - 45 minutes outside in winter for mediocre experience. - Cash only - Busboy took my plate away mid bite with food left on my plate without asking.

3 words. Hot turkey sandwich! Sooooooooooo good! Service isn't all that friendly, but c'mon it's a diner. I've deducted 2 stars because they don't take credit/debit cards. Who carries cash these days? C'mon now. G

Expensive breakfast, mediocre preparation, and underwhelming service. Perhaps there was a time when Hank's really did have well prepared food that justified the line that would form and wait for sometimes for than half an hour for a table. Today it just isn't so. We've been here probably a total of 10 times, but only twice within the last year as we realized that the poorly prepared food and snarly servers were not just flukes but a consistent experience here. Two entrees, coffee and an orange juice - nearly $30, not including tip. You want expensive, go to Longwood Restaurant in Kennett and will at least get food that better meets expectations. And if it's quaint but well prepared you're looking for - go to Mel's Chatham Diner along Rte 41 in Chatham. Not returning to Hank's

We've only eaten breakfast here but it's our absolute favorite place to go for it. We take visiting family and friends to Hanks and everyone loves it too. There is usually a line but it turns around quick like a diner. Definitely give them a try!

I have been to Hanks about 4 times. I want to love the place and rave about it because I like the area and the atmosphere....but I can't. The food is decent, but I am never overwhelmed with enthusiasm. The long lines are a bit annoying and it is a little hard to understand why it is so busy all the time. I guess there are not a whole lot of other breakfast places in the area. The fact that it is cash only is annoying. The only reason places are cash only these days is so they can hide some profits and not pay as much in taxes. For the convenience of your customers....take credit cards already. I don't carry cash and find it annoying. I prefer to drive a little further to Buckleys Tavern. Have always had a great brunch and love the atomsphere.

Expensive, greasy, flavorless food. The restaurant is definitely still making a business on it's name, but there is much to be desired as far as the food goes.

Decades of Wyeth painters have patronized Hanks - a wonderful stop for breakfast or brunch. The most imaginative omelettes, waffles and pancakes, often featuring mushrooms from nearby Kenneth Square. You sometimes have to wait a while on Sunday mornings, but it's well worth it. Prices re reasonable and the place is fun to visit. Make Hanks a stop before visiting the nearby beautiful Brandywine Museum of Wyeth and Pyle works!

Hank's usually has great food and great service but every once in a while you'll have a bad experience. On my last visit the roast beef was so tough I couldn't cut through it and my waitress didn't look my way for me to even ask for a sharper knife. I wondered if she figured as a single diner she wouldn't earn a big tip and her service made that phophesy true. She didn't ask ifmy drink needed a refill or if I wanted anything else. Other times the food and service are perfect so it's up to you whether you want to roll the dice. I haven't made up my mind if my last visit there was really my last.

Don' be fooled by the long line to get in. Having been driving by Hanks Place for several years and seeing a huge line waiting for weekend breakfast I have always concluded they must serve fantastic food. Well...I concluded wrong. Me and a guest finally went to Hanks on 10/16/2011 and arrived early to beat the line. We were seated right away at 8:10 am. I want to make it clear. Me and my guest dine out multiple time per week and our choices range from quick-serve chains to the best of what Philadelphia has to offer. We are foodies...but in no way food snobs. 1) Our waitress who seemed to be in charge of all the servers had the personality of a wet mop and a bearly tolerable attitude and the rest of the waitstaff/food runners were not much better. 2) Our waitress did not smile once or really greet us properly and never once made eye contact with either of us. 3) She never checked to see if our food was good or if we needed anything else. 4) She never refilled coffee forcing me to get other servers to do it 3 times. She never asked if I needed cream and when I did she allocated only 2. This required me to ask for more with every refill. 5) Our check was dropped on the table before our food arrived....Is this a truck stop? Note: There were no other tables where this was done. 6) The food was over priced for it's below average diner quality. $23 for 2 breakfast's a coffee and an orange juice. I have paid less for much better food...even at some popular breakfast chains. 7) The hash browns which most entres come with were over boiled and starchy and they were not grilled properly. They arrived cold and mushy in the middle and lacked any flavor once you ate beyond the thin crispy layer. 8) My companion's fritatta was below average. I have to admit this experience was a huge disappointment. I have NO idea why anyone would wait to eat at this place. There are many other options in the area. Maybe Hanks Place was a great place....once upon a time.... and the people that wait to get in are still doing it out of habit. Do yourself a favor and skip this place until that get their act together. What they need to do: 1) Restaff and or retrain the entire dining room staff. They should smile, make eye contact and maybe say 'Good Morning". 2) Scale down the overly large menu and do fewer items very well rather that offer a million options that are nothing special. 3) If hash browns are going to dominate your menu...they need to kick-ass...the current version does not. 4) Coffee should be flowing freely from the pots There should be a server that does nothing but brew coffee and refill the entire dining room during peak business times. These would be a great start.

Stopped in here on mothers day for brunch. To say they were busy was an understatement. I'm told there's almost always a line here. There was a line today too, however Hank's was up to the task. I had an outstanding skillet breakfast with eggs, home fries and some sausage chopped and added to the mix. For as busy as they were service was quick and our orders arrived shortly after they were entered. Thumbs up. I'll definitely go again. Before I forget, they are Cash Only at Hanks. Make sure you visit the ATM before you arrive.

I'm in a band called Hot Breakfast!, so brunch is something we take pretty seriously, yo. We drove by Hank's last week on the way to Sinclair's in Kennett Square, and we decided to give it a try today. We got there around 12:30/1ish, and the place was packed. We read the signs and stood out on the ramp for a table to free up, and we were seated in about 10 minutes, if that. Our table was clean, the waitstaff was super-friendly (and handling the crowds and tight spaces like champs), and the other patrons were pretty cool. I got an omelette with swiss cheese, green peppers, and tomatoes with a side of sausage (yum!) and a bagel. My beau got scrambled eggs with a side of corned beef hash, and holy cow it was good. Coffee was plentiful and standard Lacas diner fare; and the prices were super-reasonable. We got outta there for about $23, including tax. We wanna come back and try the lunch stuff. Pros: [] Cheap date [] Tasty home-cookin' [] Fast service [] Counter service (love a counter!) [] Warm "locals" atmosphere [] Easy to find [] Easy to park Cons: [] You're sitting pretty close to the next table -- luckily the noise level in the place insulates you from your neighbors [] If you're looking for a quiet brunch, go elsewhere... it gets loud just due to the volume of people in a small space with nothing to absorb the sound We'll be back.

An old school diner with old school food. You won't find anything fancy here, just traditional American diner food. Mac & Cheese, burgers, tuna melts, meatloaf, massive breakfasts, etc. But the food is good! It's not the kind of place you'll go to a lot since the food tends to be pretty unhealthy (lots of butters & creams in almost everything, I swear), but it's nice every once in awhile. Oh and if you are in your 30s or younger, you will be, by far, the youngest person in the place by about 40 years. Tip: Go during the week for lunch, otherwise you are in for a LONG ASS wait for a table. It's also cash only....which is lame.

For years, we were always intrigued by the long lines every time we would drive by. On a rainy Sunday in March, a friend was in from out of town so we figured we would give it a shot in the hopes that people wouldn't want to wait out in the rain. Luck was on our side as we were seated right away - the breakfast menu is HUGE!!! So many choices - and then there are even specials! The wait staff is friendly but one can tell that they are nearly militant in their procedure= they must be used to "Wyeth Vacationers". Get 'em in and get 'em out type of thing. Nonetheless, the food was down right delicious and very fairly priced. The coffee was plentiful and piping hot. My advice: Go early and ALWAYS expect to wait no matter what time you go. If you can't stand children or a diner atmosphere don't go. If you have a large group, please spare the rest of the guests and the wait staff - it's a small place! Try the fritattas - they are yummy :)

Even though the reviews here were enough to dissuade me from ever stepping foot into Hank's, I agreed to go when some of my people insisted on its merits and invited me to breakfast. I got there about 20 minutes early so I stood in line to commandeer a table for us. After 15 minutes or so waiting in line, I was coldly & summarily dismissed with a "we only seat full parties!!" , and a swift turn of the heel. The others eventually arrived, and we were eventually seated (fade-in to clock, another 30 minutes have passed). Our booth was filthy, little egg bits and toast crumbs scattered to all four corners by the single harried wipe of the busboy were menacing us and our elbows. My ears were filled with the din of the packed restaurant...cacophony & clatter, complete with children screeching. (My least favorite noise in the world). Hank's was terribly stuffed with people. And I really don't know why, because the food wasn't anything above the label of "sustenance". Others may like it because, as they say, it's "an institution" , but I'll never go back. At least it was relatively cheap.

Is diner food, nothing more nothing less. Now what I don't get is the hype of this place. Was it really good years ago or could it be because is giving competition to ruby Tuesdays? One minor highlight- homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Hank's Place is wonderful for what it is, a small diner with damn good food. I came here as a child and absolutely adored it from then on. You will walk in and seat yourself at a table or, my favorite, the counter. The diner itself is decorated with pictures dating back to the beginning of this wonderful place. The atmosphere is easy going, very quaint and comfortable. Every server is friendly and I have never gotten a miserable vibe off of them. Also, they are always making sure you have enough coffee during breakfast which is very important, I hate having to flag someone down for a refill of coffee. Hank's Place is the perfect place to get breakfast after a night out, have a quick easy home meal, or if you just want to relax with a few friends over an easy plate. I highly suggest you try this place once, and if you don't like it at first, go back in a few months and try it again. It's worth it.

This spot is near Longwood Gardens so it's great for a weekend jaunt. However, it is CROWDED due to its homey atmosphere and popularity w/ the locals. Service is quick and friendly. Try the mac and chhese w/ stewed tomatoes billed as President Reagan's favorite. I'll be returning. A real find.

Too big of menu and no longer focuses on the simple things of yesteryear. Miss the old Hanks place, this place isn't the same. Gave it a 2, in comparison how it used to be as short order local joint. Had this been my first visit, might give it a 3.

This is absolutely my favorite place! Always busy, but access to table is easy... Don't be discouraged; the line moves quickly. Wish I could get the mac & cheese recipe. It 's the best in the world , esp. with the slightly sweet stewed tomatoes. Meat loaf like mom's ~ real mashed potatoes. Save room for dessert ~ Strawberry pie, oh please!! Bring cash...

I enjoyed going to this place for breakfast every once in awhile. Get there early as there is usually a line on the weekends; however it tends to move fairly quickly. I have tried several of their fritatas and have enjoyed them. I really reccomend their French toast it is crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth gooey in the middle, this is my favorite breakfast dish when I go there. Also they have pretty good southern style biscuits. This place is cash only so be sure to stop at an atm on the way.

Like others, I've heard good things about this place. I was very disappointed. After being seated, there was a long wait for a waitress. The place was about half full. Ok, so she wasn't really friendly, but she took our order. The bread on my reuben was soaked in grease. So much so that I left the bread on the plate. My friend had a burger that was not cooked to order and was probably a frozen patty from the looks of it. The fries were limp, like they had been sitting. So you say, why didn't we complain? Well if we could find a waitress we would have. In fact, she didn't even come back until we were finished. Shouldn't she come back shortly after serving us to see if everything is OK? When we complained about the burger, we were offered a new one. Really? After we ate you're going to offer a new meal? In fairness, someone did come over and comp our drinks. The burger wasn't horrible, but the reuben was a waste. As much as l'd like to give this place a chance, we won't be back.

Hanks definitely has some positives and negatives. I feel that three is a generous star offering. Plus - tasty food, and quick service, large selection of items (at least for breakfast), cheap Minus - the long wait for a table, the unfortunate seating in the pathway of the door on a cold morning, the lack of space, CASH ONLY, the hurry up and get out of here attitude from the wait and bus staff. I'd recommend coming when you think no one else is -- waiting and being hurried sucks - especially when you're only eating eggs and pancakes.

The food is pretty good. I have been for breakfast and lunch. I have no complaints about the food. I even don't mind waiting in line on a Sunday morning, which you will do. But the service is so terrible. And everyone who works there is so rude. i once ran into a friend and my aunt at the same time there. They stopped by my chair at the counter to say hello when a waitress promptly barked at them and told them to go sit down. I have never seen a smile on anyone who works there. I am so glad another breakfast place opened up down the street so I don't have to go there anymore.

We have often passed this place on the way to the Antiques Mart and thought we should go in and try it someday since the parking lot is always full no matter what time we come by. So since we knew we were coming this past Saturday to see Antiques we made time for breakfast. There was a little wait for a table and we were lucky the sun was shining and the weather was not too cold. I really had no idea what to expect, but good country cooking came to mind. When we got indoors it was packed. Every table was filled with people and more. The waitress had to walk around to the end of the row in order to turn and come back up our aisle to deliver our water glasses. And each additional item. My husband got an egg/mushroom Frittata and I got the corned beef and hash (something I had never had before, but always read/heard about) with eggs. Maybe it was the wrong choice? But I no longer ever have to pine away for corned beef and hash. NEVER! And now that we have been to Hank's we never have to come back either. Yes you get a good amount of food. 2 eggs, corned beef hash, hash brown potatoes (that I asked if I could have them well done) that came brown on one side and lily white on the other. And two pieces of bread. My husbands' OMELETTE was not bad. I'm not really sure what I expected their Frittata to be. The waitress never came back to ask if everything was okay, never came back to refill my coffee and we had to ask for the check. That's it folks, Moving on.

Locally owned and operated, Hank's is a roadside eatery with good food and decent prices. Busy? Yes. Noisy? Yes Fast paced? Yes. If you want quiet, sit for a long time and not be rushed place, go elsewhere. But if you want the true flavor of a local joint that puts suits next to tool belts, with excellent homemade food, give it a try. CASH ONLY.

Okay, this place was a disappointment. I read about it in a golf magazine, and their mushroom omelet was recommended. I made a point of going here and should not have. We had breakfast at 7AM on Sunday right when they opened up. The waitresses seemed groggy and tired. We sat at the counter...I noticed the floor was warped and so my chair was unsteady! Anyway, the omelet was $6.95, which I wouldn't mind paying if it was really good...It took awhile...and when it was presented to me I knew right away it wasn't going to be very good. The eggs were overcooked and were brown on the surface...It obviously was made on the grill as opposed to an omelet pan...so there was no fluff...just only a flat layer of egg. There were barely any mushrooms inside and the mushrooms were tired and blah...didn't taste fresh cooked...barely any shitake mushrooms, a couple of standard mushroom pieces and a few pieces of portobello...UGH! OH and this region is a mushroom producing region!!! The omelet had a little provolone cheese. Oh, and the home fries were undercooked and tasted like dirty grill...I didn't eat them. Then two slices of toast were served already with magarine on them (I really dislike margarine). The coffee was standard diner coffee with creamers---it tasted okay...but really should be deemed coffee water rather than coffee! I will not return to this overated place!

Perfect spot to relax and have a good brunch. The smell of butter and waffles welcomes you into the small but quaint space. Cash only and alittle off of the normal but well worth the trip.

I am a neighbor to Hank's Place and go quite often but avoid the weekend morning rush.In addition to their traditional breakfast menu, they also serve yummy lunches and dinners. Good spanakopita, for example.I know that their food is fresh and they pride themselves on their herb garden. The staff has been there for years which to me is a good sign about how the employers are.Locals do indeed rub elbows with the tourists. Andy Wyeth was a frequent diner there but unless he has become a "shade" you will not catch a glimpse of him now, Kayta, Chadds Ford,Pa

Hanks is a great place to get breakfast, if you do it at 2pm on a weekend afternoon. I have been there a dozen or so times and have enjoyed the food each time. They have a huge selection of non-breakfast items, but I always go for breakfast. If you get in there after 10 or so, they have already switched to the lunch menu. If you ask for breakfast they point you to three lines at the top of the menu, but they won't give you a menu.. You end up paying more, since you have to order every item individually instead of the breakfast menu which has combo pricing. They write the check when you order and leave it at the table and walk away. Food and initial drinks are pretty quick. Usually within 7-10minutes. Sometimes they come around and actively refill coffee and water, other times you have to ask three different people. Overall the food rating for breakfast is a 3 stars. The service is a 2 star and the wait is a 2 star, since they recently (2009) expanded the place and added 6 or 8 tables. Yeah, cash only sucks, but the food is good. As others stated, they should put it in big print on the front door. It would help if they installed an ATM, but that would take up another table space..
